It means having that little voice deep within you question whether what you do is right or wrong (aka your conscience) and being able to think through things before doing them. Being human means looking back on what we've done and reflecting on how to make things better. It means taking action and wanting to do your part. It means being able to feel and express what you have within you. But most importantly it means to think. As Rene Descartes once said, "I think, therefore I am." Being a human means being able to think, and process what we think. It means applying logic and reasoning to the thinking process and being able to contribute ideas to help improve the world around us.

Being human enables us to have certain unique characterstics. We can feel many different types of emotion. We know we must seize every oppurtunity we get. As humans we have goals, and have the ability to make decisions, and know the consequences to those decisions. What sets us apart from all other animals, I believe, is that we have a soul in the sense that we don’t just live to live, we don’t just eat to survive. In our lifetime we will go to school for 2 decades thriving to become someone, to standout and make a difference. Even if at the end of our life we don’t go anywhere after death and all our hard work ends with our physical perish we still strive to do something.

Human are part of the Homo sapiens specie. Being human means that we have the capacity to feel emotions, communicate and understand our environment. We are able to follow social norm, traditions and laws. Human are creatures created by God with imperfections and weakness.

Much like others have already stated, yes to be human means to feel emotion. However, there is a very fine line between being just another living breathing person, and being a person of humanistic nature. The ability to feel emotion towards others, whether they be that of sympathy, happiness, or any form or compassion greatly surpasses that of feeling personal emotion. To feel for others shows that one is truly connected to life and the world around them, spiritual and physical alike. When you can relate to experiences of people who may even be a world away, that shows that you are a well grounded individual. Sure, we can all feel anger when things don't go our way, we can feel jealousy when someone gets the instant gratification that we've been longing for, we can even feel happiness when we get a new pair of shoes. These are all completely normal feelings, which granted, could get out of hand and develop selfish intentions if we allowed them. However, the ability to feel for others is on a deeper level which is developed through experience.

Without the capability to understand right from wrong then we are nothing short of primitive, living life based on instinct just as well as any other animal. Without our heart, there would be no such thing as individuality. Everything would be based on reason. Life would be monotonous without the joy of sweet sentiment that brings out the rawness in life, an array of complexities that defines reality --what really makes it worth living for. Without the power to act upon our own free will, we would be living the life of others, never our own. Although with this power we open the possibility for mistakes, it is within our choices that we find the base of humanity for it is an expression of our soul, who we have become, who we are as humans.
