Streetlight With Internet Access And WiFi

In the city of Zoetermeer (Holland) there is a streetlight which can also be used to surf the web. The Streetlight was developed by KPN, Lucent and Tyco Electronics. It is connected to the internet using glass fibre and it has WiFi on board. Using WiFi you can connect your laptop to the web if you’re within 100 metres distance from the streetlight.

The streetlight has two LCD-screens. One is used exclusively for advertisements. The other can be used to get information about public transport, the news, the weather, traffic and you can also visit the website of the city of Zoetermeer on this screen. If everything goes as planned another nine multimedia streetlights will be introduced in Zoetermeer in the future.
