Standing Naked

Dominic Miller, Sting’s guitarist since 1990, and one of the leading session guitarists today, could have all the reason to be proud of his genius. Yet, he realized that what makes him powerful and creative is not any superhuman quality but the capacity to “stand naked” which is to say: vulnerable and alert to the music that wants to be brought to life through him.

A short film about what it means to create and to be authentic that also asks back: What story is out there waiting to be told by you? (film by Nic Askew)

@freshcreation: Was reminded of the idea that everything we create is not created by us but through us yesterday when I read that textile workers in Java said no thanks to copyright. In their view, their designs are divine, inspired by God, merely brought to existence through them. And therefore, it does not make sense to put copyright on their designs. - An ingenious solution to copyright discussions, I think

@ines: I agree with their view. To me true fresh creation is not done, it happens.

And copyright was never meant to be used the way it is used now. Read here what Woody Guthrie has to say about the copyright of one of his songs:

The two chords on their own mean nothing, but together they tell a story. This strongly reminds me of the entity-relation model: have one note that means relatively little on its own, then have another note for which the same is true and between the two can be a lot of time, even completely different persons taking them. Then: apply logic between them, like the one caused the other, or called for it, or they both belong to a category. Can music be logic? Sting, on NGC, mentioned the cathedral architectures he thinks of when he composes. That also seems to indicate it.
