Light Emitting Clothes On The Catwalk

image
I’ve reported about the Philips light emitting shirts before but now the same technology is turning up at fashionshows. Attention-seeking divas and fashion-forward designers are calling it “a bright idea”. Clothes made of fabrics with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) will be the most innovative garments on runway models this season.

The new technology, called Lumalive, integrates micro-sized diodes into the fabric. The diodes then change shape, color and size, allowing wearers to carry moving text messages, vivid patterns and multi-colored surfaces.

The LEDs don’t affect the softness or comfort of the garment. The textile is both washable and durable, allowing it to be used for drapes, cushions and sofa coverings.
