Japanese Mobile Reads Barcode

image
Here’s a demo of a Japanese Vodafone ‘barcode reader’. Actually, it looks more like a ‘mosaic’ code than bar code, but it works in the same way. The thing you have to do is take a picture of the barcode at one of the Vodafone display booths, send the photo to an email address, and then you will receive a photo of Beckham on your phone. Watch the video to see it in action.

Edwin, there might be others that want to join in the discussion so keep it in English, OK? :-) You claim that barcode-scanning mobiles will only work if the camera starts doing 'intelligent things' after a pic of the barcode has been made. 95% will stop if they have to use e-mail along the way. I guess entering an emailaddress will make people more hesitant. Perhaps in the future this emailaddress is integrated in the barcode so that the mobile knows immediately where to send the barcode to and download the related content. But even more likely is that there will be no barcode at all. And also no pic will be needed.
