@Jos: Hadn't seen the off-road wheelchair yet... Looks cool! Doesn't seem to be made. for daily use though. ;)

He had these out for well over a year before the Segway was even prototyped. This is what led to the Segway. He developed the chair while working for Johnson & Johnson.
Chairs like this are great until the battery dies and then you are stuck, there is no way for the person in the chair to move without help at that point.
