How Musicians Promote Themselves These Days
Here’s a Nokia Nsights video which shows interviews with a marketing expert, a radiopresenter and a musician about how musicians can make use of the internet to promote and sell their music. Dieter Sermeus, lead singer of The Go Find, says: “For musicians it’s a really, very good time to make music because of all those possibilities you get for free.” Watch the video.

Currently I'm working hard to distribute two funky summer tunes. It's difficult, because of course the audience is limited to a Dutch audience. I do have a question though. What do the pro's feel is the best way to get real airplay for your tunes? Do you need a 'plugger' (a person who brings your music to radiostations) or even a manager or could you promote yourself simply by sending regular or e-mails and posting your songs on different sites?

@Piet: There have been many examples of artists that became famous just by making use of the many tools that internet has to offer (and by making GREAT music of course!! :-) ). A combination of MySpace, YouTube, Flickr, blogs... Everything that makes it easier to get noticed by people. The band OK Go has a list of all the tools they used on their MySpace site: http://myspace.com/okgo This might be of interest too: http://www.freshcreation.nl/comments.php?id=475_0_1_0_C Hope this helps!
