First Else - The Built From Scratch Smartphone

The story
What happens if you throw away all of the smartphone interfaces that you know and start building a brand new one from scratch? You might end up making a smartphone like the First Else. Though it is launching in Q2 next year, this looks like a phone from the future.

Why this story inspired me
I think it takes guts to say: Let’s start all over and see where we will end up. They worked on this phone for 2 years. This shows dedication and a need to make something special. The result is an interface that might make other phone companies reconsider their interfaces.

What I hope sharing this story will lead to
I hope that the First Else will inspire other people/companies to challenge themselves to go beyond what’s already out there and really take their creations to a next level.

It included original art from both and in the video above, which includes shots from the Expo, they talk about each others work. Did you know Arzach inspired NausicaƤ? (via gurney journey via jake)

Dyson’s Bladeless Fan

Sir James Dyson asks questions about products that no one else seem to ask. Like does a fan need blades? Apparently not. Look at that thing. Amazing. (via not cot)

Eye Gesture Recognition

Move over voice and motion recognition. The new kid on the block is eye gesture recognition. Not with a camera either but an ear bud that detects nerve signals.

Apple iMac 2009

Apple’s newest version of the iMac is out. The new Apple mouse includes a multi-touch surface. That’s funny because I just saw a video of Microsoft Labs experimenting with touch and mice. I thought, can’t wait until that comes out. Then, like a week later, there it is, ready to buy. Though, not from Microsoft.
