The Girl Who Silenced The World For 6 Minutes

The story
This was more than 17 years ago, at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the Rio Summit, Earth Summit (or, in Portuguese, Eco ’92), a major conference held in Rio de Janeiro from June 3 to June 14, 1992. A small girl gives a speech in which she points out what’s happening in the world.

Why this story inspired me
Amazing that a little girl arranged money to travel all the way to Rio to let her voice be heard about something that she cared about: the future of this planet. An impressive speech. All the people in the room couldn’t do anything but agree and applaud. It made me look at situations that bother me and wonder what I was doing about them.

What I hope sharing this story will lead to
I hope that more people start to show they care for a better world.
